'Text4BlackHealth'
The AAHAWPA ‘Text4BlackHealth’ service will offer text health information to increase Black health awareness ‘literacy’.
Research shows that text messages have an open rate of up to 98% on average, 95% of messages are opened within 3 minutes; text also has a 209% higher response rate than phone, email, or Facebook.
AAHAWPA ‘Text4Health’ text message-based health promotions will provide individuals with healthy lifestyle reminders, information on chronic diseases and self-management, and questions to ask doctors. Text messages will be standardized but can be tailored specifically too, texts will include some of the following:
*Inform community members to get screened for high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, high blood glucose, and cancer (prostrate, breast).
*Inform community members to check their blood pressure on a regular basis.
*Inform community members about COVID-19 and keeping themselves protected from it
*Inform community members to positively manage their stress
*Inform community members that Black-on-Black violence is a significant health problem
AAHAWPA ‘Text4BlackHealth’ health promotions is to increase a sense of personal ‘health responsibility’ in Black communities that health care begins with me. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 60% of chronic diseases are related to health illiteracy and unhealthy lifestyles.
African American Health Awareness & Wellness Promotion Association as ‘health representatives and advocates’ clearly understand that the socio - economic determinants of health (racism, poverty, food deserts, etc.) is a 40% contributor or more to chronic diseases and must be equally addressed.
