Berea Family Tabernacle of Faith ‘Health Ministry’
Berea Family Tabernacle of Faith (BFTF) has developed our church ‘Health Ministry’ initiative called ‘A Circle of Wellness for Congregation & Community’ our theme is “Health Care Begins With Me!”
As a Church BFTF is committed to ministering to the 5 aspects of the ‘whole-person’ (spirit, mind, emotions, body, social). The word ‘health’ is derived from the Old English root meaning ‘whole’. An individual is considered healthy when these 5 aspects are working together in wellness.
For too many churches in the past we’ve been ‘narrow’ in our ministry focus; one-dimensionally addressing the spiritual while unintentionally neglecting the rest of the whole-person. Yes, the whole-person is one unit, each aspect affects the other both positively and negatively.
The whole-person is expressed through ‘lifestyle’ that reflects an individual's beliefs, values, knowledge, attitudes, and habits. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 60% of chronic diseases are related to unhealthy lifestyles and health illiteracy.
Today millions of Americans particularly African Americans are disabled and die prematurely from health conditions that are greatly impacted by ‘health unawareness’ and ‘unhealthy lifestyle’ behaviors. Indeed, these conditions could be prevented, reversed, or better managed with proficient knowledge ‘health literacy’, knowing the symptoms and risks associated with many health problems.
Berea Family Tabernacle of Faith ‘Health Ministry’ will be based on ‘wholeness and wellness’ to increase ‘health literacy’ and promote ‘healthy lifestyles’. BFTF Health Ministry will be partnering with the ‘African American Health Awareness & Wellness Promotions Association' (AAHAWPA) who we consulted with - utilizing their expertise and advise for developing our health ministry initiative.
Berea Family Tabernacle of Faith Health Ministry initiative will offer the following services:
*Health Awareness Classes
*Informed Patient Education Classes
*Healthy Parenting Classes
*Health Support Groups
*Health Screenings
*Conduct Health Public Service Announcements
*Provide Social Media Health Information
*Outreach Wellness Checks
*Sponsor ‘Health Messages & Meals’ Fellowship
